Fastfood alternatives
Ingredients
I'll let you in on a secret many of you don't know. I used to be a fast food junkie. I worked as a server at a popular restaurant in my early twenties, working evening shifts and getting off close to midnight. I loved a burger and fries and got hooked on fast food because it was the only place open late at night. I did this for a few years.
Cleaning up my nutrition became a priority when I started my fitness journey. The first year I ate clean during the week and ate out on weekends, and I saw very little progress. You can't outdo a bad diet no matter how much exercise you do. Finally, I realized I had to replace all my bad habits with healthy ones, and one of the first ones I focused on was eating out.
Instead of eating out and eating mainly fast food, I started learning how to cook and began recreating meals I enjoyed, like a good burger and fries. During this transition is when I saw the most progress. Cooking my meals at home allowed me to control the ingredients I ate, stick to my adequate portions, and, most importantly, build consistency.
Today, I make my homemade burger with healthier ingredients that taste one hundred times better than a frozen and reheated burger.
Burgers are a great meal to have as a weekend treat. They are easy to make, very filling, and are a complete meal.
My homemade ground beef burger is loaded with tomatoes, onion, lettuce, avocado, and a fried egg topped off with a whole grain burger bun. Trust me, it tastes fantastic. Pair it with homemade sweet potato fries, and you are all set to go.
Delicious taste with fewer calories and a guilt-free conscience.
